This episode is about a client of mine who told me in our first meeting about five years ago that she wanted to make $50,000 of sales a year. And she just sent me a note at Christmas time this year, sharing that her business made $500,000 in revenue in 2021. In this episode, I’ll share exactly how she has been able to grow her business so quickly and the skills you can apply to your business to achieve incredible growth in a short period of time.

The role of coaching in business success

So before I go into the episode, I want to be really clear that while I call her a client of mine, we have not been coaching together the entire period. And also that I am not taking credit for her achievements. This is probably a good time to talk about coaching and while a coach can play a really important role in someone’s success, ultimately it is up to an individual to take the action and get the outcome. And because it’s the business owner who does all of the hard work ultimately, they are the one that owns the success.

What my clients goals were at the start of the journey

The reason I share stories like this on the podcast is to show you what is possible when you believe in yourself and when you take big and bold action. So the client that I am talking about, her and I have done sessions together on and off over the past five years. And in our very first session, like I ask most of my clients, I asked, “What are your big goals?” She’s a mom and she said, “I would love to make $50,000 a year, but only work part-time. So only doing about 20 or so hours a week. I want to be a really present mom.” And I asked her, “Why can’t you make $500,000 a year and be a really present mom?” She paused and thought about it and obviously she thought about it a lot.

Since then, I have witnessed her courageously growing her business. She has won contracts with big global names who then offer more and more work to her. She has brought on numerous team members to keep up with the demand and the whole time her business has been growing, she has very firmly stuck to her boundaries around being a present mom and only working part-time hours. I have to say, I have been so inspired by her ability to hold her boundaries and her ability to attract such high caliber clients with very little marketing.

I remember a few years after our initial meeting she reached out to me in disbelief and excitement and shared that she had just hit $300,000 in revenue. I still remember that phone call and I cried tears of happiness for her. I love seeing people winning and doing it on their terms. I think at that point in time, she started to think she’d capped out at what she was capable of. I mean, multiple six figures on part time hours is freaking incredible, huh? But she kept on growing, hiring and attracting incredible opportunities through her work.

Using her biggest assets and increasing her prices continually

I really do believe that being very talented at what you do goes a long way towards having big business growth, but it’s only part of the puzzle. I have encouraged her over the years to continue to increase her prices, which she has done with confidence. Another massive asset she has is her ability to sell her offering with confidence and clarity while holding her boundaries around her inputs and her deliverables. Being a great communicator is a fantastic asset as a business owner.

The investments she made in her business

Other things I’ve witnessed her doing from a practical perspective, she’s invested in high end branding and photography. She’s also worked with various coaches and invested to be in high end communities. As I’ve said so many times on this podcast, there is so much power in being surrounded by the right people.

The mindset needed to make bold actions

These are some of the practical strategies that she has used to scale her business, but the most important lesson I want you to take away from her growth journey is that the results come from the belief that something is possible.

At Christmas time she sent me a gift to thank me for the role I’ve played in her business journey today. And this is what the card said, “Dear Clare, thank you for dreaming a life for me that I would never have dared to dream myself.” This is one way a coach can really support you to grow your business, because even if you don’t have faith in yourself, when you have people around you who believe in you, it can inspire you to push on. When my client rang me to tell me she’d hit $500,000 in revenue, I got goosebumps all up my arm and I cried happy tears once again. And I celebrated with her reminding her that she is so worthy and deserving of this success. And after we let the dust settle, I said, “So next target. A million dollars?” She giggled and with a lot less apprehension than when we first spoke about her $500,000 target, she kind of nodded and seemed to accept that that was what was coming next. And I know she’ll get there soon.

I bang on about mindset so much because this is what it is. It isn’t the action. It isn’t the steps. It’s having the faith. The big, bold, courageous actions that you need to take to get big leaps in your income, they come from mindset and having an unwavering confidence that you can create whatever it is that you dream of.

Thank you so much for tuning in to today’s story about what an amazing client of mine has been able to achieve. I hope you found this story really inspiring and that you continue to do the work on your mindset so you too can have massive leaps in your business income.
